Neurofeedback Training

Personalized Brain Care for Lifelong Wellness

The calmer the waves, the less work the brain needs to do, the more efficient the brain becomes.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback  is a medication-free treatment for many conditions in which the brain is not working as well as it might. These conditions may include ADHD, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, chronic pain, chronic migraines, memory, behavioral problems, traumatic brain injury, seizures, anger issues, trauma and much, much more.

Neuroscience informs us about the brains neuroplasticity ( the ability of the brain to change and rewire itself) and neurofeedback is an excellent treatment modality that does just that!  Neurofeedback is a form  of biofeedback that teaches a person to change (correct) their brain waves.  It is a learning strategy that can be thought of as exercise/training for the brain.

Many conditions affecting clients today can be thought of as problems of self-regulation. This means, the brain has become dysregulated and is stuck in patterns that don't serve the client. Neurofeedback training helps to teach the brain to regulate itself more effectively.

Here are two easy to understand you tube videos explaining the neurofeedback process

What Happens at a Training Visit?

The client will meet privately with a trained medical professional to discuss your medical history and your particular reason for visiting.  This will be followed by an EEG, (electroencephalogram). The EEG captures your brainwaves on the surface of your head.  With all this information in mind, goals will be discussed, and a personal  protocol will be developed.

At the following visit you will begin your training sessions. In traditional Neurofeedback, one or more sensors are placed on the scalp, along with one on each ear.  Information about the brain's activity is then provided to the client as "feedback," both visually and auditorily. The brainwaves are presented on a computer through an EEG video display, often accompanied by a video game.  The individual engages with the video game using their brain, no need for hands. As desirable brainwave activity increases, the person is rewarded with the video game moving faster, scoring points, and emitting a beep. Gradually, the brain begins to respond to this feedback, leading to positive changes in neuro regulation.  The learning of new brainwave patterns takes place during the neurofeedback process. This new electrical activity is “shaped” toward a more desirable, more regulated pattern.

About Kathy Todd-Seymour, RN, BS Neurofeedback provider

Kathy, is a compassionate and caring registered nurse with over 35 years of experience in the health care field. She has had extensive education in neurofeedback training with a solo practice located in Northborough, MA.

During her nursing career supporting children and adults, she has worked as an IBCLC,  (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) a Boston based birth doula,  pediatric nurse and developed the newborn care nursing agency known as  Mother & Child. She has spent her recent years at Community Clinical Research Network as a Sr. Clinical Research Coordinator.

Several years ago, Kathy started seeking alternative options for her own health concerns.  She was struggling with an autoimmune disorder, anxiety, digestive issues and a recent concussion. It was encouraging to find that by making  holistic lifestyle changes and committing to neurofeedback training,  she slowly started to improve her overall  physical and mental health. These changes helped eliminate "brain fog", reduce chronic pain, chronic anxiety  and reliance on pharmaceuticals.

She works with a combination of personal experience and  research-based information to develop recommendations best suited for you.  She looks forward to helping you and your family achieve their personal health goals.
